Almost, Probably, Maybe Open for Business!

Although I made this decision over a week ago now, I wasn’t going to blog about it until it was finalised, but the admin at my university are taking a while to process my application and I’m the impatient type1.

I am dropping out of university until (hopefully) next semester, which starts in July. It was a super difficult decision to make, but with all the health issues I’m having as well really despising the classes I was taking (and quite far behind in), I just had no energy left in me to keep going. My GP supported this decision, and now I’m basically in recovery mode for the next two months.

However, this decision comes with a few downsides. The biggest one being not having my own income any more. Not that you can really call the living costs portion of my student loan an income, because it’s just money I will have to pay back later… but it was still my own money. I am now a kept woman. And I REALLY hate that idea.

So, I’m giving myself until mid-to-late May to follow doctor’s orders to relax and to get myself started with a CBT for my anxiety and stress issues, and then I am going to attempt the webdesign-for-money thing again. I already have a few potential clients lined up, who are surprisingly happy to wait for my services so if I can do it2, I won’t feel so useless.

I may even be recovered enough by July to keep going with the webdesign work WHILE I study. *shock horror*

It’s funny. If you had asked me seven years ago how I felt about working, I probably would have told you that I hated it. Now, I look back on the jobs I once had and yearn for them. They were only checkout operator/cashier jobs, but I never felt like a big ol’ sack of mouldy potatoes when I was working. It’s amazing what a few years of chronic illness can do to a person.

  1. Speaking of which, I’m still waiting to get an appointment for my MRI & EEG with the neurology deparment at the hospital.
  2. Which makes me feel really awesome because people like my stuff enough to not find someone else to do the job!!!
